The Marion Arts Festival (MAF) was yesterday, and John exhibited once again with real success. He's become a fixture in the show, and gradually has assumed a greater leadership role as resident artist representative for planning.
MAF takes place in Marion's downtown park: a delightful city park in the town's main square. It's filled with old trees and is next to the old railway station, which the town uses for special events - like the Arts Festival.
This year John was both juror and exhibitor. He was one of four jurors who winnowed participants down from over three hundred submissions to fifty participants. After helping him set up the booth (shot at right), he took off for about two hours to judge the exhibitors for the Festival's monetary awards. I hung out in the booth to greet folks and to give whatever information I could about the work.
John sold two pieces and distributed much of the remaining work to the Campbell-Steele Gallery in Marion. Campbell-Steele is one of John's longest gallery relationships, and we're always delighted to see more of his stuff in Priscilla Steele's fabulous space.
